Frequently asked questions

What is chiffon fabric?

Chiffon is a very light, sheer, plain-weave fabric with a soft, floaty fall and a faint rough feel from its twisted yarns. It layers well, takes colour and print beautifully, and is available in crinkled, foil-print and dyeable versions.

What is chiffon fabric used for?

Common uses include dupattas, sarees, overlays, tops, scarves, gowns and bridal drapes. Dyeable (RFD) chiffon is also available if you want your own shades.

How do I choose the right chiffon fabric?

Chiffon frays easily and can be slippery to cut, so buy a little extra length. Choose a lining colour that suits the shade if you need opacity.

How should I care for and sew chiffon fabric?

Sheer fabrics are best hand-washed or machine-washed in a mesh bag on a gentle cycle, then dried flat. Press with a cool iron on the reverse, and use fine needles and a small stitch length when sewing.

How is chiffon different from organza?

Chiffon is soft and flowing, while organza is crisp and holds a shape. Chiffon is used for drapes and dupattas; organza for volume and structure. See our organza collection.

How is chiffon fabric priced and sold?

Fabric is sold by the metre: choose your length on the product page. Prices start from ₹150 per metre. Most fabrics are 150 cm wide; the width and weight are listed on each product page.

Do you supply chiffon fabric in bulk to brands and manufacturers?

Yes. We supply designers, boutiques, label owners and manufacturers. For trade pricing, sampling and large orders, contact the Tessuti team.
