About chiffon fabric

Chiffon is a very light, sheer, plain-weave fabric with a soft, floaty fall and a faint rough feel from its twisted yarns. It layers well, takes colour and print beautifully, and is available in crinkled, foil-print and dyeable versions.

How to choose

Chiffon frays easily and can be slippery to cut, so buy a little extra length. Choose a lining colour that suits the shade if you need opacity.

Range, uses and pricing

The range has 450+ designs. Prices start from ₹150 per metre. Common uses include dupattas, sarees, overlays, tops, scarves, gowns and bridal drapes. Dyeable (RFD) chiffon is also available if you want your own shades. Fabrics are sold by the metre, and most are 150 cm wide.

Care and sewing tips

Sheer fabrics are best hand-washed or machine-washed in a mesh bag on a gentle cycle, then dried flat. Press with a cool iron on the reverse, and use fine needles and a small stitch length when sewing.
