Tessuti stocks burnout (devore) fabric, with patterns etched into velvet, silk satin and viscose knits. The sheer-and-pile contrast gives a layered look.

About burnout fabric

Burnout, or devore, fabric is made by dissolving part of a blended cloth with chemicals, leaving sheer areas next to opaque or pile areas. It is used for patterned velvet and silk satin. The effect is a layered, textured design.

How to choose

Choose by base: burnout velvet is dressy, burnout viscose knit is relaxed. Check how sheer the etched sections are before using it on a fitted piece.

Range, uses and pricing

The range has 40+ designs. Prices start from ₹690 per metre. Common uses are dresses, dupattas, scarves, kaftans and evening wear. Fabrics are sold by the metre, and most are 150 cm wide.

Care and sewing tips

Velvet should be steamed rather than pressed, and the pile should never be ironed flat. Dry-cleaning is the safest option for most velvets. Cut all pieces in the same pile direction.
